When to go?

The best time to go on safari in Botswana is during the dry season months from May to October when the Okavango Delta is in full flood making it suitable for water-based activities. At this time, the game viewing is usually excellent, particularly towards the end of the season, as the animals gather in the same area for water.

From November to March, the rains begin transforming the desert into a carpet of green, making it a good time to visit the Central Kalahari area. The second biggest migration of zebra and wildebeest starts in the Makgadikgadi and the flamingos arrive here to nest too. In the Okavango is the season when loads of mammals are giving birth, an opportunity to witness the beautiful newborns. The rain is generally short and should not prevent you from taking part in any activity.
