Sossusvlei and the Namib Desert

Sossusvlei is located in Namib-Naukluft Park and is the vastest conservation area in Africa. It features the most outstanding and the tallest red dunes globally, which cast magnificent shadows on the desert floor of the earth. It is the soulful beauty of this area that will mesmerize you.

Sossusvlei hosts highly adapted animals whose survival depends on the rare rains and floodwaters. Desert oryx, springboks, and ostriches are some of the creatures that you can find roaming in the sands of this beautiful place. Also, expect to see jackals and hyenas move around the area as fog beetles continue to collect water from the early morning mist.

It is one of Africa’s most enchanting landscapes scenic drives, flights or hot-air ballooning are some of the activities in the area. For the more energetic a climb up some of the tallest dunes on Earth.

Aside from that, Sossusvlei and the Namib Desert are the soundest places to be particularly at night. The galaxy above becomes brighter than any other place in the world. Indeed, these are some of the most spectacular landmarks in Namibia.

Etosha

Covering an area of more than 22 000 sq. kilometers is one of the most popular national parks in Namibia. It is known for its blood-red sandy vistas and its outstanding wildlife-viewing venues. Additionally, it has a glittering salt pan that covers more than 5000 sq. kilometers. Due to this, it has turned out to be every photographer’s dream

Unlike other places in the world, Etosha features a fair share of wildlife. Here we can find 4 of the big 5 (buffalo is the only one not found in the park), one of the best reasons to visit this place is the healthy population of the endangered black rhinos, the cheetah or even the rare brown hyena.

One of the most interesting facts about Etosha is the numerous waterholes which are magnets to the wildlife. As a result, the viewing is usually straightforward and effortless specially during the dry winter months when even the most elusive animals are drawn out of their hiding places relaying on these permanent water sources.  So, if you want to watch wildlife in abundance, then Etosha is the perfect place to be. Some camps feature flood lit waterholes which are perfect for night game viewing, one can even spot lion, rhino and elephant amicably having a drink.

Etosha also has flamingos and pelican in plenty, particularly during the rainy season. It is at this time that the pan changes into a luscious lagoon to gather these eye-catching birds into their droves.

Skeleton Coast & Damaraland

Skeleton Coast and Damaraland are some of the most scenic places you can visit in Namibia.

In the Skeleton Coast, you will get a chance to witness a beautiful and dramatic meeting of the sea and the land. Here, the Atlantic is present and plentiful. It will finally click in your conscience why the Portuguese called it the “gates of hell” after having lost thousands of ships on the coast. It is also the same reason why the local Bushmen referred to it as “the land that God made in anger.”

Create the most memorable African moments with a fly-in Safari as you fly over the coast and explore it in four-wheel-drive vehicles. Grab the chance to see beyond the elemental contrast of the sea and land and start appreciating the complication and the vitality of this unforgiving land.

If you have never come across brown hyenas, desert elephants, springboks, and lions making their living in the sands, then Skeleton Coast will give you this experience.

Damaraland is another place where you will come across mysterious flat-topped lava mountains and petrified trees casting shadows across the blood-red terrain. It is also where you will witness the colossal granite boulders that are covered in numerous ancient drawings standing like the proud sentinels.

The seemingly inhospitable landscapes also host the mountain zebras, black rhinos, and gemsbok in plenty. Despite the marking of some parts of Damaraland as concession areas, tourism is still limited, and that makes everything to these corners even more outstanding.

Skeleton Coast & Damaraland are indeed some of the most spectacular areas in Namibia that you should never fail to visit.

Kaokoland

Off the beaten path we find Kaokoland known for being dusty and dotted with lush green oases. It vaunts incredible mountain scenery, which hosts the sought-after desert adapted elephants and wandering Himba communities.

Although the place is arid and almost empty, the rugged landscape is fascinating, particularly during the morning and evening hours.

Kaokoland is not known for its wildlife but is home to gemsbock, springbok and Hartman’s mountain zebra which can be found throughout. In the North by the Kunene River which marks the border between Angola and Namibia a healthy population of Nile crocodiles cohabitate with hippos. Very rare but possible is to see lions, black rhinos, leopard and cheetah who also make themselves home in this vast area. The animals live in the sands nourished by the water that seeps from the holes that desert elephants make.

In this area is possible to do river cruises, drives, walks, quad biking and visits to the Himba communities that live in the region.
